Preparing Your Grounds For An Outdoor Photo Shoot

Preparing your grounds for an outdoor photo shoot is important because you must have a place to put everything that will make the shoot look great. The majority of people who do photo shoots such as this will need to have their grass cut, hedges trimmed, and lawn edges. However, there are other things that you need to consider to make the space look appropriate for a photo shoot.

1. The Basic Lawn Care

The basic lawn care that you have done should be done a couple days in advance so that everything looks clean. You do not want to have an outdoor photo shoot that is covered with grass clippings, and you do not want to have that spare branch hanging on a hedge that you have not tossed away yet. Your best bet is to schedule the lawn care company, ask them to clean up as much as they can, and rake or sweep the lawn once more before the shoot.

2. The Flowers

You could bring flowers into the shoot using pots, and you will find that you might want to decorate the pots so that they look as though they belong in the photo shoot. Someone who is new to the photo industry might not realize that they need to stack colors, and it makes much more sense for you to use the flowers as a way to add accents to your color scheme. You can put clothing and items in the photo shoot that play off the colors of the flowers, and you will feel as though your photo shoot has much more life to it because of the flowers.

3. Furniture

You can bring out furniture for an outdoor photo shoot, and you must be certain that you have found furniture pieces that actually match the style of the shoot. You have to make sure it is clean though, so it might be time to bust out your pressure washer and give them a rinse. Someone who is looking for cheap furniture could buy patio and garden furniture that will make the shoot look nice, or you could bring traditional furniture outside for a moment to make it appear as if it is all happening in the middle of the garden. You want to create something that looks comfortable. Sitting on a tree stump often does not do your photos justice.

4. What Is Behind You?

An outdoor photo shoot might be a fun thing to do, but it cannot look great if you have things behind you that do not look that enticing. You do not want to shoot with a stream of cars running behind you, and you should make certain that you do not point your shots at the house under construction behind you. You need to be certain that you have found a place in the lawn that will give you a pastroal background. You might even use plants and fabrics to cover up a fence that sits behind you.

5. Shoot At Mid-Morning

You need to shoot at mid-morning so that you have some natural light coming in that is not too bright. You want to be sure that it is not too bright, and you should have your scene set up in a spot that will not be blasted by bright sunlight. You will get less glare in each picture, and you will not spend the afternoon squinting in your pictures.

6. Conclusion

You should start setting up for your outdoor photo shoot by preparing the lawn, having the landscaping company come out early, and asking for help with treen ranches and flowers that you might include in the shoot. The shoot that you have started should avoid anything that will look bad in the background, and you need to find a way to keep the light from overtaking your shoot. Each step in this process will change how you feel about the shoot, and you need to be sure that you have planned all this with your photographer so they know what to expect.
